The first Telecommunications Licence was issued to Dhiraagu (Dhivehi Raajjeyge Gulhun Pvt Ltd) on the 1st of October 1988. Dhiraagu was the first telephone & mobile phone opearator in Maldives.
Since the issuance of the first telecommunications licence on 1988, two more licences have been
issued till date.
On 22nd May 2003, the Licence was issued to Focus as the second Internet Service Provider (ISP).
Recently, on 1st of February 2005, the licence was issued to Wataniya Telcom Maldives Pvt Ltd as the second Mobile Phone Operator.
